Silence in the face of racist murder is a form of violence. The convention media spectacle eclipsing the national spotlight Mr Crump and D’Vontaye’s family are drawing unto his death is an example of this silencing violence already occurring here thanks to the RNC.

We already pay taxes to elected officials, if they don’t give us what we need then why do we think spending more taxes to create another group of people who will spend our money for us is a solution?

Today, shared revenue is essentially wealthy Republican lawmakers waging a culture war, demonizing a city, and stealing its resources to redistribute amongst their own constituents and ensure they are re-elected. Shared revenue is not a just redistribution of resources.

The RNC clearly cannot be trusted. Once again we see Mayor Johnson either being grossly ignorant of reality, or outright lying to enrich business elites.

Milwaukee progressives, leftists, and antifascists are well situated to prevent a Trump presidency. First, we are living in a swing state. We are also (unfortunately) hosting the Republican National Convention, and only an hour and a half from the Democratic National Convention. Poll margins and political dialogs here are watched closely by election strategists and pundits. What Milwaukeeans say and do during the campaign season matters. Now, I don’t want to overstate our power, but we do have more than other people who live in deep blue states, or left enclaves far from the conventions. With this power comes responsibility.

Public financing is complicated, in part because some people would rather not have any public financing at all. If it were as simple as Milwaukee collecting tax revenue then spending that  revenue on public infrastructure, the Milwaukee Public School (MPS) district might not be in the godawful mess it’s in –unfortunately, the reality is complicated and stupid, just like most bureaucracies.

All who know the inner workings of the present WI DOC want to see it embrace its true mission to rehabilitate the prisoners and keep the public safe. That mission has been largely abandoned and what we see is mere warehousing. You know all this, have been part of the decision making, and now have the opportunity to help the DOC strike out on a new healthy path.

We think there’s utility in giving even the most morally bereft, psychotically moderate Dem power player a point when they occasionally do something right. And even our closest, most reliable allies should be held accountable when they fuck up. There are a lot of people running for Wisconsin Assembly and Senate who seemingly do not live in the place they’re running to represent. That’s perfectly, strangely legal. Do we really want a political system where a class of professional politicians simply sort out amongst themselves where to run, and why, without any preexisting connection to the specific community?
