Harris lost the election because she has nothing to offer the American people
Ever since Trump won the election I’ve been thinking about my Democrat friends of which I have a few. I've been thinking a lot about how to talk with them right now. At this moment, how can I convince them that the Democratic Party has failed us and that it needs to be completely overhauled? This article is for them.
Most folks I'm friends with are Socialists, like me. We mostly despise the Democratic Party. However almost all of us held our noses and voted for Harris simply because she wasn’t Trump. This was indeed a compromise, but you really wouldn’t have caught me complaining about it before the election. Because I was scared. I was scared that Trump was going to get elected again.
But here we are. And I believe the most important thing for us to do right now is to be accurate when we're looking at the reasons why fascism just won in America. We discussed this yesterday, but just to recap, in 2020 Trump got 74,223,975 votes, while Biden got 81,283,501. As of right now, the Monday after the polls closed Trump is at 74,729,200 votes (up 500k) and Harris is at 61,028,223 (down 10 million).
Unequivocally, the story here is that Trump didn't win, but that Harris lost.
We're going to hear a lot of excuses why Harris lost in the coming months, possibly the most infuriating one will be that it's because she's a woman, but instead of falling into the identity politics trap I really want us to get this analysis right:
Harris lost this election because she has nothing to offer the American people. Hard stop.
Ask yourself, what was the center of her campaign? Can anyone talk about any in detail policy proposals she had other than restoring Roe v Wade (which is more going back to how things were than going forward)? Not to mention, what does restoring Roe v Woe even mean when we have a 6/3 fascist Supreme Court? Sure she had some generic policy proposals around housing etc...but her main arguments were Trump's a Fascist and Republicans like Dick Cheney like me so you should too. She didn't offer the voters a vision for what her administration would look like. She sounded like every other Democrat that has come before her and honestly Trump has shown that folks are fed up with “more of the same” and want to burn it down. Harris' whole campaign was based around returning to the status quo that voters sick and tired of.
Bernie summarized it best with this statement: https://www.instagram.com/berniesanders/p/DCC3TFUBbkO/?hl=en&img_index=1
60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, inflation has made wages lower than they were 50 years ago, our standards of living are worse than what our parents experienced, we are the *ONLY* wealthy nation in the entire world that is unable to guarantee healthcare as a human right, yet we spend BILLIONS funding Israel's genocidal slaughter against innocent palestinians which includes paying for the most number of amputated children to ever exist in the history of the world (more than 10 per day). Fucking disgusting.
The Democratic Party refuses to or is incapable of understanding this, much less are they capable of doing anything about it. To understand this we have to look at the motives behind why the Democratic Party exists.
The Democratic Party exists to build personal power for those involved, which is antithetical to what the Democratic Party voting base wants. The Democratic Party could exist as a vessel to build power for the entire leftist voting block in America, but that would require that the current leaders either step down or be run out of the party. And that's exactly what I hope happens next.
A typical Democratic Party operative, whether it be an elected politician or the chair of the DNC has one goal in mind, and that is "how do I get more power for *myself*?" They do this by leaning on Citizens United and putting themselves up for auction to the highest lobbyist bidder. Would you like an example? When State Representative Ryan Clancy won his first term at the state house in 2022 I was serving as his campaign manager. Shortly after the election we got a email from the WI State Democratic Party inviting Ryan to a meet and great called “Speed Dating with Lobbyists”. I shit you not. All the lobbyists that operate in Wisconsin were there, they got to spend 5 minutes with each Assembly-Elect where they would ask them probing questions which would measure how low each electeds’ integrity was, AKA how buyable they were. The fact that this process started before each elected was even sworn in, and was directly facilitated by the state party should be extremely concerning to everyone that believes in democracy. If the Democratic Party helps facilitate selling off our electeds to the higher bidder before they're even sworn in, how are we supposed to expect them to fight for us when our priorities are at odds with the lobbyists?
Let's take a look at the Clinton Healthcare Plan of 1993. According to wikipedia this was a "healthcare reform package proposed by the Bill Clinton administration and closely associated with the chair of the task force devising the plan, first lady Hillary Clinton. Bill Clinton had campaigned heavily on health care in the 1992 United States presidential election. The task force was created in January 1993 but its own processes were somewhat controversial and drew litigation. Its goal was to come up with a comprehensive plan to provide universal health care for all Americans, which was to be a cornerstone of the administration's first-term agenda."
Since the introduction of this plan the Democratic Party has had full control of the branches of federal government three times. With Clinton in 1993–1995, with Obama in 2009–2011, and with Biden in 2021-2023.
When the Clinton's introduced their plan 71% of all Americans approved of it. Today 69% of all voters support Medicare for All. So let me ask you, if Medicare for All is this popular and we've been working on it for 30 years, there’s been three opportunities when the Democratic Party had full control of the federal government, why don't we have it yet? The reason is because the lobbyists own the Democratic Party at the local, state, and federal levels.
We need more leaders like Ryan Clancy and Bernie Sanders. These are people that understand that their job as an elected leader is to fight for things that positively impact the everyday American. This is why they don't take money from lobbyists, because they know if they did then they wouldn't be able to fight against the power structures that own the oppression that we fight against.
Kamala has had her time to speak. Now it's time for her and the rest of the Democratic Party to listen.
With great entitlement, the Democratic Party has come to believe that they don’t have to do anything to earn votes. People are tired of their vote being taken for granted. There are many issues that are being ignored that could help galvanize your base. Pick any of them. Healthcare, income inequality, genocide, whatever. Just do something to prove that you give a shit. Fight for it. Or step down, stop taking up so much space, and get out of the way.
